Rama Ranjit Mehra is a mother of three sons. She is also the dynamic head of the SVAASA' Group of Companies . Started in the year 2001, the concept has strong roots in hospitality, health and wellbeing. This came from an inspiration born from a deep personal loss. Rama was diagnosed with cancer and operated upon in March 1998. Three days later, her husband Ranjit was also diagnosed with cancer. Sadly, Ranjit lost his battle with cancer and passed away. During his struggle for two years with repetitive doses of chemotherapies, it was Rama's keen bent and faith towards alternative medicine and healing that helped. Despite Sloan Kettering, New York and Tata Memorial, Mumbai offering him only a few months of survival, it was the nutrients and herbs suggested by his nutritionists in the U.S. that boosted his immunity and lengthened his life. In the process of such sad times Rama learned much. Her belief in "we are what we eat and how we live" lifestyle further strengthened. She realized that much of what we are consuming is not only unhealthy but downright dangerous. The synthetic and chemical overdose in our food, our everyday life is slowly clogging our body and thus increasing illnesses, disease and unhappiness. That even if we eat only fresh fruits and vegetables we can still be seriously nutritionally lacking. She realized that hectic lifestyles, ignoring our body and rushing away from time-trusted methods are not adding to our quality of life or that of our families. And the lackadaisical attitude by which we regard our body is one of the main causes of larger problems.
While sitting at the chautha of her late husband, he came and told her in her heart to create what she felt so strongly about, to create a platform to reach out a much needed helping hand, to create SVAASA' Group of Companies . She decided to make good use of the huge ancestral property in Amritsar that fell into her lap. Being part of one of Amritsar's oldest families, she was well versed in the nuances of business. Together with her sons they made a dream team that rapidly turned a run down 250 year old British colonial mansion into a beautiful Boutique Heritage Wellness Spa Resort. This is named, in memory of her late husband, Ranjit's SVAASA'. Under her inspiration and guidance, her caring staff personally looks after each guest as they enjoy a soothing ambience, Ayurvedic therapies, largely organic cuisine, Yoga, Pranayam & Meditation.
The resort does exactly what Rama always hoped for. It provides rest, relaxation and health that are much cherished by all those who have experienced Ranjit's SVAASA' . Guests leave feeling rejuvenated and far healthier than when they arrived. Many return or send their friends. Rama always gets to know her guests whenever she is in Amritsar. She can be often found talking to an overseas visitor, suggesting some homeopathic remedy or herbal tea. For Rama has a vast knowledge of practical things to make people feel better, live better, be it a headache, cancer or reduced immunity.
When she was in the USA she had been introduced to many supplements by some leading nutritionists and doctors. She became very interested in the science of nutrition, use of non-chemicals and non-synthetics and its close links to our health, happiness and wellbeing. She came back to India and negotiated to bring those products to benefit the Indian market. It started as a small thing. Now, she is about to open her first dedicated store, SVAASA' -Vitamins, Minerals, Herbs & Organics sourced from the best manufacturers worldwide. She's decided on the holistic approach. From what you wear to what you eat to what you wash your hair and skin with. With her team she has selected the best products, ones she would like herself and her friends to use! Organic mother tinctures, highly researched blends of vitamins and minerals for breast care, for prostate, for smooth functioning of our organs, be it the heart, spleen, colon etc, specialized nutraceuticals for the pregnant mother and the new born, 100% organic skin, hair and body care ranges, organic cotton linen and even organic baby wear for your little one.
She has many plans for the future. She feels it's brighter than bright. More than anything she wants to bring good from her own personal sorrows by giving people access to non-chemical alternatives in the minefield of modern products available. She wants to provide a place where you know that whatever is in stock is good and its not a lottery to find something that does what it mentions on the box.
