Ranjit’s SVAASA is an Indo Colonial architecture of 1800’s amalgamated with Eco Friendly efforts under its patriarch O.B.E M.C.E Lala Rattan Chand Mehra. Post British colonization its renovation was done by his grandson Dev Chand Mehra. It was during the 1984 riots that the City of Amritsar came to a standstill and the Haveli was closed for almost 20 years. In the early years of 21st century, its restoration and refurbishment by Rama Ranjit Mehra, an Interior Architect and Nature lover opened its quintessential doors of this inherited residence seeping with pure positive spiritual sanctuary of energies; essence of inner peace by the perfectly tuned Vaastu sciences of Architecture and Eco-Conscious elements.
Rain Water Harvesting: deep underground wells have been dug up, but are all covered making them hidden to the naked eye, all over the property to collect rain water allowing it to further seep through its ganga stone base back into the water table to replenish it rather than loosing it down the drain pipes. These wells have water directed to them from the roofs and terraces as well to maximise restoration of water.
Solar thermal panels: the first of its kind in Punjab was adopted here as an important eco-friendly effort in 2003. Today we have about 5 separate solar thermal panels on the roof to harness the sun’s energy and offer temperatue controlled hot water. As the property is old and the pipelines need to meander through its thick walls it may take a few minutes to get nice hot water in your taps.
Natural & Pure Vegetables : Seasonal recipes, a limited menu, are all trademark of the Farm to Fork Cuisine we follow at Ranjit’s SVAASA. Although we are in the heart of the city we aim to optimize growing of fresh vegetables and fruits within our own compound with organic and cow dung manure farming method. We grow fruits, vegetables and herbs as per the season and use them in your cooking.
